Celebrate TV50 draws 18000-strong crowd – TODAYonline

SINGAPORE — MediaCorp capped a historic year in television with the live telecast of Celebrate TV50, an all-inclusive 5-hour live”celebration, encapsulating the memorable moments of local television.

The live show attracted a record 18,000 turnout despite the drizzle at the start of the event. The show was also simulcast on Channel 5, Channel 8 and Toggle, MediaCorp’s interactive TV service and watched by over 1.6 million viewers, compared with 1.3 million viewers last year.

Apart from international celebrities The Wanted and Wang Lee Hom, the show featured iconic local talents spanning some 40 years of TV such as Brian Richmond, Margaret Chan, Moses Lim, Jack Neo, Asnida Daud, J.A Halim.

Besides established Channel 5 and Channel 8 artistes, popular personalities from Suria and Vasantham were also part of the festivities, such as Taufik Batisah, Sharon Ismail, B J Kadir, Rahayu Ridwan, Shabir, Ebi Sankara, Vignesh Wadarajan and Suthasini. They were prominently featured in the main programme as well as the ‘Walk of Fame’ segment.

As a grand finale to a year-long celebration of 50 years of television, the show was conceived as a multi-lingual, multi-cultural show to reflect Singapore’s multi-cultural heritage.

A fair mix of English and Mandarin content was featured in the dual channel telecast – with seamless programme transitions in both languages- to keep different audiences captivated.
