Easter Fiesta kicks off at Sentosa HarbourFront precinct – Channel News Asia

SINGAPORE: Singapore’s grandest Easter Fiesta was launched on Friday to attract more locals and tourists to the Sentosa HarbourFront precinct.

The organiser, Singapore HarbourFront Business Association, hopes to attract 200,000 visitors through its inaugural event — the Great Egg-Venture — which runs from April 18 to May 11.

Whether it’s an egg design competition, an egg craft workshop or an egg hunt, the galore of Easter-themed activities and promotions appealed to all ages.

Ms Jia Ning, an eight-year-old participant, said: “My favourite game was the toddler’s egg hunt. It was very interesting because I get to take out my shoes and kick the sand and it was very easy for me to find the eggs.”

Mr Xavier Chong, a 12-year-old participant, said: “I like the egg painting because I get to spend time with my family and have fun.”

One of the more popular stations at the Egg Fiesta is the egg garden where participants have to walk around an area on eggs, without cracking them.

The public is also invited to hunt for eggs.

The aim of the Great Egg-Venture is to find all 100 giant eggs — each measuring 1.5 metres by 1 metre — in the Sentosa HarbourFront precinct.

The eggs are designed by local artists from various associations, charity groups and school.

The public is invited to search for the eggs from April 18 to May 11, and the winners will be announced during the closing ceremony.

The event also shows how businesses can play a crucial role in creating a family-friendly environment.

Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Social and Family Development, said: “These are all platforms for the families to come together to enjoy some quality time together. As you know we are all very busy in our work but once in a while, when we have a long weekend and when we have some time, for everybody to put the family uppermost on their mind – that’s a good sign for Singapore.”

The Singapore HarbourFront Business Association invested $ 1 million in the family-friendly event and there are plans to expand it in the coming years.
