NTUC FairPrice to double warehouse capacity by year end – TODAYonline

SINGAPORE — To meet Singapore’s growing demand for groceries at their stores, NTUC FairPrice will double their warehouse capacity through a third distribution centre at Joo Koon by the end of this year, announced the social enterprise today (Feb 27).

The new centre will be part of a new S$ 350 million, 16-storey FairPrice Hub which will also contain NTUC’s FairPrice’s new headquarters, said their Chairman Ng Ser Miang at the topping up ceremony of the new Hub this morning.

To raise productivity and cope with the tight labour market, manpower requirements at the new distribution centre will 28 per cent less compared to another existing centre in the area.

This will be made possible through a new automated system — the first of its kind in the Asia-Pacific — which replenishes the warehouses automatically, and features autonomous vehicles mounted on a monorail system which locates specific warehouse goods on its own.

It will be able to handle up to 10,000 cartons of groceries per hour, 25 per cent faster than the current system in NTUC FairPrice’s other warehouses.
