PHNOM PENH, Jan. 3, Kyodo

Four people died in clashes Friday between Cambodian protesters and security forces in a suburb of the capital, police said, while a local human rights activist claimed at least five protesters were shot dead.

Chuon Narin, deputy police chief of Phnom Penh, told Kyodo News nine police officers were among those injured in the clash at Canadia Industrial Park, which houses some 30 garment and footwear factories.

He said one of the police officers was in critical condition.
